Privacy Policy

This page explains what Codexs collects when you visit this website, why, and what you can ask us to do about it. It describes how the site works today. When that changes, this page changes with it and the date below is updated.

Who runs this site

Codexs is published at codexs.net by [ replace this ] (business name and registered address). If you have a question about anything on this page, email [ replace this ] and we will answer within a few working days.

What we collect

Information you choose to send us

If you email us, use a contact form, or sign up for updates, we receive whatever you put in that message: usually a name, an email address, and the content of your enquiry. We use it to reply to you and nothing else. We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to anyone for marketing.

Comments

If you leave a comment on an article, WordPress stores the name and email address you entered, your IP address, and your browser’s user agent string. This is standard WordPress behaviour and it exists to help catch spam. Your email address is not shown publicly. If you would like a comment and its associated data removed, ask us and we will remove it.

Server logs

Like almost every website, our hosting provider keeps automatic server logs. These typically record the IP address making a request, the page requested, the time, and the browser user agent. We do not use these logs to build a profile of you; they exist for security and for diagnosing faults, and they are controlled by the hosting provider under their own retention schedule.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store. At the time of writing, a normal visit to Codexs does not set any tracking cookies. The cookies that may be set are functional ones: WordPress sets cookies if you log in or leave a comment, and our caching layer may use a cookie to decide whether to serve you a cached copy of a page.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking functional cookies may stop the comment form from remembering your details, but it will not stop you reading the site.

Analytics

We do not currently run any third-party analytics on this site. There is no Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, and no session-recording tool installed. If we add analytics later, we will name the service here and describe what it collects before switching it on.

Advertising

We do not currently display advertising on Codexs.

We intend to apply for a display advertising programme in future. If and when ads appear on this site, advertising networks and their partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads, including ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. We will update this section with the name of the network and a link to its own privacy information before any ads go live, and you will be able to see for yourself whether that has happened: if there are no ads on the page you are reading, no advertising cookies are being set by us.

Affiliate links

Some pages on this site contain affiliate links. If you buy through one, the merchant may set a cookie so they can attribute the sale to us, and we may earn a commission. This does not change the price you pay. Our affiliate disclosure explains which links these are and how we decide what to recommend.

Services we rely on

Running this site means a handful of other companies process data on our behalf:

  • Our hosting provider, which stores the website, its database and its server logs.
  • Email and form tools, which handle messages you send us and any updates you subscribe to.
  • Merchants we link to as an affiliate, who handle their own checkout and their own data.

Each of these has its own privacy policy. We choose providers we believe handle data responsibly, but once you are on a third party’s own website, their policy applies, not ours.

How long we keep things

Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up replies still make sense, unless you ask us to remove them. Emails you send us are kept as long as they are useful for the conversation and our records. Server logs are kept according to our hosting provider’s schedule.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal data we hold about you;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete it, where we are not required to keep it;
  • stop sending you email updates — every update email also has an unsubscribe link.

Email [ replace this ] and say what you want. We may need to confirm who you are before acting on a request about someone’s personal data. If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

Children

This site is written for adults doing professional work and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

When the site changes — new analytics, advertising, a new form — this page is updated and the date at the top changes. We do not quietly broaden what we collect and leave this page as it was.
